Yes, it’s that time of year again – time to gather all your receipts, mileage logs, interest statements, and more. But, filing taxes doesn’t have to be an ordeal and it can certainly be less frustrating and time consuming if you have all the materials and documents you need at the ready. This is where Snagit’s tagging and organization features can help you prepare for taxes, this year and next.
Use Snagit’s Library Features to Organize Your Captures
Did you know Snagit automatically gathers metadata for you during the capture process? This makes it very easy to search for captures based on the program or website you captured from. Some of the metadata that’s collected when you capture includes:
- Date (Year and Month)
- Application: The application Snagit captured from
- Website: The website Snagit captured from
Then, once you save your capture, Snagit adds more image-specific information to the metadata and stores it in one convenient place for you.
To see the image metadata, select your image in the tray and click on the information symbol at the bottom of the screen. The Details page appears:
Increase Your Organizational Skills Using Tags & Flags
Add Tags
Use the tags feature in the library to quickly assign keywords to captures to help group or find captures easily at a later time. For example, add keywords based on tax-related categories like receipts, forms, bank statements, etc. Then, when it’s time to gather up your supporting tax documents, just search by the keywords used to tag your images.
To Assign Tags
- Open Snagit Editor and select the Library tab.
- Click to select a capture in the library.
- In the Tags field, type a keyword.
- To enter a keyword that contains multiple words, place quotation marks around the phrase.
To assign an existing tag, click the Tags dropdown and select the desired tag.
Assign Flags
Flags are visual icons assigned to captures. Flags appear on capture thumbnails in the library and in the tray.
To Assign Flags
- Open Snagit Editor and select the Library tab.
- Click to select a capture in the library.
- On the Library tab, click to assign the desired flag(s).
To Search for Captures
- In Snagit Editor, select Library tab > Search button.
- Enter a search term in the Search field. You can search by file name, by application or website captured from, by flags, or by tags.
- The search results appear in the library viewing area.
- Double-click a capture to open it in the Editor.
- To print all captures from a search, select all in viewing area then right-click. Choose Print from the menu.
Search by Browsing the Capture History
- In Snagit Editor, select Library tab > Search button.
- Captures are categorized by date (month and year), applications, websites, keywords (tags), or flags. Click a category in the Search pane to view the captures within that category in the library.
- Double-click a capture to open it in the Editor.
Download & Install Tax Stamps
We have created a set of twelve stamps to help you stay organized all year long. You can use these to add visuals on the actual receipts, statements, etc. so at a glance you can see if they are tax related.
