Layered graphics are impressive to see and they are fast and easy to create using Snagit 12.
This tutorial makes use of the Quick Styles gallery feature. The Quick Styles gallery is a collection of preset styles for the Editor’s Drawing Tools and Image Effects.
In this tutorial you’ll use one image to create and save custom styles to the gallery. Then, use these presets to quickly create the other images for your stacked graphic.

Let’s Go!
1. In Editor, open the four images to be used for the stacked or layered graphic. It’s best to use images similar in size.
2. Set transparent for the canvas color.
3. Apply a border and shadow to the first image.
- Image tab > Style group > Effects button > Shadow > choose More Shadows.
- Choose the desired Shadow Depth and Color / Outline options. (We used a 30% shadow and a black 10px outline.)
- Click Add to Quick Styles. Click OK. These options are now added to the Styles Gallery.
4. Apply the perspective effect to the same image.
- Image tab > Style group > Effects button > Perspective > Perspective/Shear Options.
- Change the Horizontal number to achieve the desired look. (We used 28%)
- Click Add to Quick Styles. Click OK. This setting is added to the Styles Gallery.
5. Apply the Shadow/Border quick style to each of the remaining images.
6. Apply the Perspective quick style to each of the remaining images.
7. Trim each image to remove the excess canvas.
- Image tab > Canvas group > Trim.
8. Create a new canvas.
- Press <Ctrl + N>. Make the canvas 800 x 800 or whatever dimensions you need. You can always drag a corner to make the canvas larger if necessary.
9. Drag the image you want in first position to the new canvas from the tray. This is the image that will be in the back.
If desired, resize the image by dragging a handle on the image. Hold the <Shift> key to maintain aspect ratio when resizing.
- Continue to add each of the images until you have completed your stacked graphic.
- To change the order of an image: right-click an image > Order > Choose location.
10. Save Image
- Save the image as a .snag file so you can work on it later if necessary.
- Save as a .png file (or other format) to use in a document or share with others.
